4/21/2006 10:53:58 AM Get fitted for spring!
If you've never played with a set of custom-fitted golf clubs, you need to look into it. Off the shelf clubs are, despite the marketing hoopla, not consistent in their makeup. For example, a set of stiff flex Taylor Made irons was tested and stiffness varied from iron to iron - some were stiff, some fairly soft. In addition, the shafts weren't truly round.
If you're serious about improving your game, you need to spend some time with a specialist. They'll measure your swing and match shafts to your profile. Then they'll build a set from the ground up, and you'll be surprised at how much better you'll hit the ball. If you can't (or don't want to) afford a fully customized set of golf clubs, you can definitely benefit from just having the shafts replaced. Don't forget to get new grips every year or two also!
4/19/2006 10:44:03 AM Vijay Singh goes for a hat-trick at the Shell Houston Open
After successfully defending his 2004 win, Vijay will attempt that oh-so-rare event in golf, the three-peat. Aaron "Dresses" Baddeley will try to back up ast week's win and go for two in a row at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course, Humble, Texas.
PGATour.com has a video preview of this week's tournament, available here.
4/16/2006 11:51:17 AM Congrats to breakthrough winner Aaron Baddeley!!
Aaron scored his first win on tour this last week at the Verizon Heritage in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He shot a one-under 71 to finish one stroke ahead of hard charging Jim Furyk, who chased Aaron all the way down to the 18th green.
After outdriving "Dresses" Baddeley by some 30 yards on the final tee shot, Jim's approach nearly flew the green leaving him a 50- or 60-footer that he'd have to hole to make birdie to pressure Aaron — no good after Aaron had knocked his stiff. Jim lagged close and marked, trying to pressure the newcomer more, but Aaron putted like a champ and sunk his 8-footer for birdie and sealed the win.
This week he'll try for two in a row at the Shell Houston Open.
4/12/2006 4:02:23 PM The Verizon Heritage starts tomorrow
Returning to the ever-popular Harbor Town Links Course at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Peter Lonard will attempt to defend his title against another star-studded field.
The gamers out there can play along on many of todays video games, as the Harbor Town course is frequently one of the popular courses that make their way into so many games these days.

4/10/2006 3:48:05 PM Congratulations to Phil Mickelson!
Lefty has arrived, pulling off an impressive win Sunday — playing 24 holes to win back-to-back majors. Having won three out of the last twelve majors, he's proved himself fully capable of winning the big shows and will never again have to deal with the title of "Best Player Yet To Win A Major."
Tim Clark finished an impressive second. Tiger Woods couldn't sink a putt to save himself, finishing in a five-way tie for third with Jose Maria Olazabel, Retief Goosen, Chad Campbell, Angel Cabrera and Fred Couples. Freddy was giving Phil a run for the championship when a terrible three-putt from birdie range on the 14th hole derailed his forward progress and essentially ended his chances.
4/5/2006 6:22:09 PM Augusta, GA - Man Arrested After Shooting At Tom Lehman's Car — Lehman Not Injured
Did Augusta National get moved to the freeways of Los Angeles when we weren't looking? Talk about a crappy way to start The Masters. Some guy was driving down the road, passed Tom's car and shot at it. No real details were given, but nobody was hit in the shooting and Tom will tee off tomorrow as scheduled. Full Story on GolfWeb.
The Masters build-up is over, and play begins in a few hours. Tiger's hoping to pull off another win for his ailing father; Phil just kicked ass last week and has his first chance to win back-to-back majors — what an epic turnaround that would be! It's the first time neither Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer will be playing... which will definitely cast a nostalgic air over the week. But perhaps the best news of all is that the skies are sunny, the greens fast and firm, and it looks like we're finally going to get a chance to see the course playing to its full potential. Game on!!!
4/4/2006 11:24:07 AM Augusta National's Latest Facelift
In the new age of long-bomber golf, the home of The Masters has tweaked four holes to make the course longer and added trees to make the course tighter than ever. Details of the nip and tuck procedures below.
Hole 4 - The tee box has been pushed back another 30 yards into the woods, and elevated a few feet to create more of a downhill tee shot.
Hole 7 - Lengthened from 410 to 450 yards, up almost 100 yards from its distance five years ago. Seven trees were added, squeezing the landing area and approach angles. The green was also re-grassed and the right-rear lowered to create a potential back-right pin position.
Hole 11 - The tee box again has been pushed back about 12 yards, and 17 new pines were added down the right to tighten the hole and increase the dogleg to the right, bringing the pond front-left of the green more into play.
Hole 15 - Lengthened from 500 to 530 yards, the tee box has been lowered and shifted to the left to the original 11th tee area. The longer second shot from a downhill lie and over water increases its challenge. Hit the second a little too thin and too long could cause players to up in the water behind the green as well.
4/3/2006 8:56:11 AM Lefty Puts On A Clinic at the BellSouth Classic
Walking away to a 13-stroke win, Phil made the game look so easy this weekend, shooting -28 with five bogeys and a double bogey. The rest of the week, he was just on cruise control. 33 pars, 31 birdies, 90% of Greens-In-Regulation for the week. He stumbled slightly, putting two in the water on 18 Saturday, but didn't let it ruin his weekend.
Phil's margin of victory is second only to Tiger's 15-stroke win at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
It's time for The Masters - the first major of the year!!!! According to our last poll, this is the tournament most people are looking forward to. Be sure to check back often - we'll be blogging away this week — course changes, predictions, updates, reviews, etc. T.V. Coverage is 4-7pm Thursday & Friday on USA, with CBS continuing its traditional coverage on the weekend.
